Built right on the caldera of Afytos, perched on the cliffs six meters above the sea, it offers direct, breathtaking views of the Toroneos Gulf and Sithonia just across the water.
Its history goes back to 1989, when the Papavasiliou family opened what has now become one of the area's most beloved spots. Today, the reins are held by brothers Giannis and Christos Papavasiliou, who literally grew up behind this bar and know better than anyone what genuine hospitality with a personal touch truly means.
“We don't waste a thing”
“We adopted a Zero Waste philosophy two years ago. Everything in the venue is recycled. We don't throw anything away,” say the owners, in a way that proves this isn't just a marketing trick, but a true way of life. In an era where eco-consciousness often stops at words, On the Rocks turns it into daily action.
Brunch & Cocktails: Everything is handmade
The breakfast and lunch menu perfectly reflects their philosophy: “if we can make it ourselves, we do.” The strapatsada (traditional scrambled eggs with tomato and feta), omelets, cold sandwiches, bruschettas, and the classic English breakfast are already top favorites. New items will be added to the menu soon, such as French toast and traditional spinach pie, bringing a strong Greek touch to your morning.
However, the real signature of the place is their pancakes: a stack of four with homemade batter prepared entirely from scratch by the team. You can choose between two savory options—featuring Cretan parmesan and prosciutto—and two sweet ones loaded with chocolate pralines, Bueno cream, honey, and walnuts.
Cocktails with a Greek twist
When it comes to cocktails, the Papavasiliou brothers go way beyond the classics. Their new menu introduces Greek spirits like tsipouro, mastic liqueur, and ouzo into creative blends that bring a fresh, unique character to the drink list.
