Some flavors don’t need an explanation. They hit us before we even have time to think, taking us straight back to the family dinners of our childhood and kitchen aromas that are part of who we are. At 3 Domnas Visvizi Street in Pylaia, Thessaloniki, the mulberry trees planted thirty years ago by the founder himself, Rizos Patousis, still shade the tables—like a living promise that says, "Welcome home."
Ampelos opened its doors in 1994, and since then, the Patousis family hasn’t changed their recipe for success. Rizos and Stella are still right there in the kitchen, while today, brothers Dimitris and Giannis keep the flame alive for a business that stands the test of time simply because it never forgot its roots.

The Philosophy Behind Every Dish
Our philosophy is simple: delicious, comfort food made the old-school way, using authentic ingredients that honor the recipes, crafted by hands that truly know what they’re doing. Tradition and real flavor, perfectly combined.
The Standout Dishes
Two creations have become the ultimate trademarks of Ampelos. First, our tzigerosarmas—tender lamb variety meats mixed with aromatic herbs and rice, wrapped in caul fat and slow-baked to perfection. It’s a dish few dare to make right, but here, it’s done flawlessly. Then, there’s our signature "Ampelos" dish—rich lamb shoulder with mushrooms and melted kasseri cheese, wrapped in caul fat, proving that Greek cuisine still has amazing surprises to offer.
Our slow-roasted suckling pig served with traditional Greek pasta (chilopites) or eggplants, the oven-baked pork steak, our handmade stuffed grape leaves (dolmadakia), and the fresh catch of the day complete a menu that takes pride in its quality. For starters, our crispy zucchini chips and a mussel risotto (mydopilafo) that deserves a special mention will make waiting for your main course even harder!

Salads & Starters That Bring the Table Together
Our spicy cheese dip (pikantiki), Mount Athos-style eggplant salad (agioritiki), and handmade whipped feta spread (chtypiti) are three choices that can easily create an unforgettable dining experience all on their own. The kitchen at Ampelos makes no distinctions between mains and sides—every single dish is crafted with the exact same love and attention.

Wine Straight From Our Own Barrels
Ampelos features its very own cellar with house-barrel wines, alongside a curated selection of bottled wines at fair, customer-friendly prices. A glass of wine here isn't just a side drink; it’s an essential part of the experience.
Service You Can Truly Feel
At Ampelos, we don’t just serve food; we welcome you. The hospitality is warm, genuine, and deeply personal. Having grown up in this very place, Dimitris and Giannis show it in everything they do. They’ll know your name by your second visit, remember your favorite orders, and give you recommendations just like they would if you were eating at their own home. There’s absolutely no rush to clear the table, and you’ll never see an indifferent face. People keep coming back here not just for the food, but for that irreplaceable feeling of being truly expected.
A Place Truly Worth Your Time
Set to a soundtrack of acoustic Greek folk music (entechno) and traditional rembetiko, Ampelos is much more than just a tavern. It’s a mini-getaway from the city, filled with greenery, cool shade, and unforgettable flavors.
