A Family Story by the Water
On the beach of Peraia, just 19km from Thessaloniki, stands a tavern that has been serving fresh fish and warm hospitality for more than five decades. Founded in 1964 by Giannis Mirvalis and his brothers George, Thanasis and Dimitris, Fish Tavern "Giannis" is now run by the third generation of the same family. The tavern sits right in front of the sea and offers guests a direct view of the Thermaikos Gulf while they enjoy their meal.
Fresh From the Sea
The menu is built around fresh fish and fresh seafood, served either grilled or fried depending on the guest's preference. Simple grilled options like sea bream, bass and mackerel share the table with seafood classics such as grilled octopus, fried squid and mussels saganaki. Everything is prepared daily in a kitchen that follows strict hygiene standards and stays open until 23:00 every night except Mondays and public holidays.
Meat, Salads and Homemade Spreads
For guests who prefer something other than fish, the tavern also serves a small but well-made selection of grilled meats, including veal chops, pork souvlaki and chicken fillet. The salads are made with fresh vegetables picked daily and the house specialty is the "Giannis" salad, made with lettuce and rocket. Another highlight of the table is the homemade spreads, prepared the traditional way, such as eggplant salad and fish roe salad, both made fresh in the tavern's own kitchen.
A Setting Made for Relaxing
The decor is minimal and traditional, designed to let the sea view take center stage. Soft Greek traditional music plays in the background at an easy relaxed tempo, creating a calm atmosphere for long lunches or evening dinners by the water. It's the kind of place where guests can slow down, enjoy the breeze from the Thermaikos and stay for hours.
